In October, 2017 we will celebrate the 500th Anniversary of Martin Luther’s attachment of his 95 theses for debate, to the large doors of Wittenberg Cathedral in Germany.
Luther, an Augustinian monk, had felt the gates of paradise open to him when he understood Romans 1:17 the righteousness of God as that righteousness which He does not require but that which He provides through faith in His Son, Jesus Christ.
Rome told people what they had to do, the gospel was the declaration of what God had done in Christ.
I am chairing a committee of the General Assembly of Australia to suggest ways for us to celebrate the re-emergence of this truth into the life of the church.
Our major recommendation is to establish a panel of Evangelists who will be available to congregations and presbyteries to both train others to share the gospel in personal witness and to conduct evangelistic meetings in local settings as arranged by local committees.
We believe that the best way to celebrate the gospel is to have occasions where it is declared faithfully and engagingly by gifted men and women.
We are recruiting evangelists now and churches will be asked to contact me for the allocation of the most appropriate evangelist for the local setting.
Here is how you can help now – we are looking for a name for this evangelistic campaign, here are some options:
Fresh Start; Fresh Start Australia; New Life; Here’s new life; Start Again; Born again; Look to Jesus; Right with God; Real Life; Soul Health; Heaven Exposed; Life thru Jesus; Lost … Found; The judge judges rightly.
This will be a national campaign, please let us know what you think and any further suggestions of names for the evangelistic outreach.
You can contact me direct at dac@damc.com.au please let me have your suggestions as soon as possible.
